Brief Introduction of Esophagus Carcinoma

The esophagus is a tube-like structure that connects your throat to your stomach. Esophageal cancer (EC) is a dangerous type of cancer that develops in this structure. Concerns about the prognosis and mortality of EC are becoming more and more pressing. Esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC), the most common form of EC in the United States, squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the most common histological type of EC worldwide, and other uncommon types are among the several types of EC that are classified based on the cells that are involved. It is commonly known that Barrett esophagus (BE), smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption can raise the risk of EC. Typical symptoms of EC include weight loss and painful or difficult swallowing.

For the treatment of EC, multimodality therapies—mainly surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy—are advised. Research on effective tumor markers of EC and their antibodies is progressing and may contribute to an early diagnosis as well as the evaluation of tumor response to therapy. Non-IgG therapeutic antibodies, primarily IgM antibodies, have garnered significant attention in the pharmaceutical field globally recently, in addition to approved IgG therapeutic monoclonal antibodies.
